Poster art for the bout titled "Attack of the 50 Foot Derby Girl"... I went to school in Bellingham (which is how I know most of the Betties), so I tried to incorporate some local stuff, like the Bellingham Herald Building on State Street.

Poster art for the bout titled "Appetite For Destruction"... I've always been a huge GNR fan. This project was right up my alley. I'M WORKIN' ON THE NIGHTTRAIN! Sorry... got excited.

faster derby girl_small.jpg
Poster art for the bout titled "Faster Derby Girl! KILL! KILL!"... I fucking love that movie. Just saw it on the big screen recently and it has not lost a step with anything produced since.

derbyreign_poster.jpg
Poster art for the bout titled "Derby Reign"... Mixed influences from Prince as well as one of my favorite artists of all time, Patrick Nagel.

An early derby poster. Sometimes my concepts are more than I can handle... so much research to get those boot / skates just right. Labor of love, y'all!

My first derby poster EVER. Real Irish theme here. And, being Irish, I thought I'd try to make it look like a cool beer label. This design got such good feedback that they asked me to do more. That's how it's done, folks. One good one gets you more.

bettiespg01.jpg
Page 1 for the Betties comic book. They broke it up into 2 page stories sections and put them in the bout books. Basically, collect all the bout books, get the whole story. Definitely was a new type of thought process to make a cliffhanger point every 2 pages. But, I like a challenge. It makes you sharper.

All of the characters were based on actual rollergirls. It was such a fun ride coming up with their powers and then writing and illustrating them. The ladies loved becoming superheroes, too. Who wouldn't?

betties_litho.jpg
This was the litho design that I put together specifically for the Betties. It was kind of the unofficial cover to the comic book. It's still a pretty popular item at bouts.

bta_logo4b.jpg
Logo design for the Betties' away team. Wanted to strike fear into the hearts of their opponents while still giving a feminine (but tough) edge.

betties_2012_01.jpg
One of the 2012 Betties posters line-up. The theme was based heavily in "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World". This depicts the current team leaders as the 7 evil exes.

Another in the "Scott Pilgrim" inspired posters. I had no idea how to do electricity, so I just played around with filters and blurs until I found the right combo. Turned out pretty good!

This is my favorite poster of the bunch. The color scheme is AWESOME and the special effects turned out really good. Plus the "Demon Hipster Roller Chicks" were fun as Hell to draw.

betties_2012_04.jpg
Another "Scott Pilgrim" inspired poster. I really got to play with perspective here. And the team colors are always fun to incorporate into the piece.

I got a kick out of these characters... The hammer was a nice touch. Very "Scott Pilgrim"-esque.
